Past National President, Marie Kenny of Brackley, PEI, presided over the past meetings in Ottawa which included the Executive Officers from each province of Canada. Marie and Carol MacLellan of Pleasant Valley, Executive Officer from PEI, were pleased with the success of the weekend and the whole educational experience.
The Executive met to make decisions on the plans for the 2012-2015 Triennium. Executive Director, Barbara Sheardown of Ontario, who works out of the Office at the Adelaide Hoodless Homestead in St. George, recorded the minutes. The theme "Women’s Institutes: Planting Seeds of Change" will be the focus of the organization for the next three years. After completing a successful "Women’s Heart Health" campaign, another educational project was chosen, "Growing a Healthier YOU." Each Committee Chair reported on preperations they had undertaken since they were installed at the FWIC Convention this past June in Sidney, British Columbia. The next national Convention will be held in Fredericton, New Brunswick from June 9-13, 2015.
While in the nation’s capitol, the group which included some spouses toured Rideau Hall, the residence of the Governor General who is the Honourary Patron of Women’s Institute. At the conclusion of the meetings, delegates attended the Remembrance Day Service at the National War Memorial and toured Parliament Hill. Marie Kenny and her husband Cecil laid a wreath on the Cenotaph for Women’s Institute. Carol said, "As spouses and family play an integral part in the work that women do, it was a privilege to have some husbands share in several aspects of the weekend." Carol’s husband Everett was one of the spouses that enjoyed touring Ottawa.
