Founders Day

A Founder’s Day Celebration is traditionally held every February, and marks the beginning of Women's Institute,while celebrating the founder, Mrs. Adelaide Hoodless.  Each year PEIWI invites all to an Open House reception in the afternoon, while WI members are treated to a guest speaker and workshops.

Founder's Day 2016



Founder's Day will be celebrated on Wednesday, February 17 at the Farm Centre starting at 1pm.  Final details will be in February's Notes and News. Highlights include:

· Short Presentations by:

· Canadian Mental Health Association

· Ground Search and Rescue (GSAR)

· Canadian Legal Information Association (CLIA)

· Active Break with go!PEI

· 4-H Interaction Ideas Session

· Card Making with Helen Nicholson

 

A Reception open to all will follow at 4:30pm open to all, with winners from the WI Student Cooking Contest being announced approximately 5:30pm.   To register please contact the WI Office at wi@gov.pe.ca or 902-368-4860 by Wednesday, February 10.

WI Month Contest
 
Entries are  to be submitted in a folder with a maximum of 6 pages - summarizing the purpose of the event and the event itself (maximum 250 words). These 6 pages are to include 2 - 6 photos. Entries will be judged according to the creativity of the event & folder presentation. The dead-line to submit your entry to the WI Office is March 27, 2014.

WI Day Reception and Open House

Join us to meet old and new friends. Provincial Conveners will have displays and be available to
“chat”. We will also be showing the Adelaide Hoodless Video. Light refreshments will be served.
 
WI Month Contest
 
In 2014 PEI is celebrating 150 years since the Charlottetown Conference and we encourage all branches to do something special to commemorate 2014. This is a great opportunity to involve the community. Any event that promotes WI and 2014 Birthplace theme qualifies, as long as the event is held in February. Prizes of $50, $30, and $20 will be awarded at the Annual Convention in May. Entries are  to be submitted in a folder with a maximum of 6 pages - summarizing the purpose of the event and the event itself (maximum 250 words). These 6 pages are to include 2 - 6 photos. Entries will be judged according to the creativity of the event & folder presentation. The dead-line to submit your entry to the WI Office is March 28, 2014.

Effective Meetings - Branch and District Areas
Tuesday, February 19, 2013 (9-noon) - Farm Centre (Storm date Feb. 21).
Topics include:
  • How to effectively run a meeting at Branch and District Area levels.
  • "Marketing A Non-Profit Organization" with John Barrett Director of Sales, Marketing & Development,
      Veseys Seeds Ltd (and Rotary Club member of Charlottetown Royalty). Lunch provided.  


These sessions are open to branch and district area executive members or a Branch representative. Admission is free and lunch is provided.  Please register with the WI Office staff before Feb. 15, 2013.

Founder’s Day Reception and Open House

February 2012 Events


During the 2012 Founder's Day event, Susan Doiron (pictured below) was announced the winner of most steps during the Heart Health campaign. Runner's up were Lorna MacPhail Tierney of the Meadowbank Branch and Frances Coles of the Dunstaffnage Branch.

Conveners Motivational Session was an opportunitty to discuss the responsibilities of conveners at the Branch, District Area and Provincial convention levels. The session covered reports: what to include, how to present, whom to send to, and due dates.  Also on hand was motivational session with new WI Executive Director, Ellen MacPhail who spoke on Passion, and Sailing.  Free admission and lunch.


Founder’s Day Reception and Open House
was held at the WI Office, Royalty Centre on Thursday, February 16, 2012 from 1 to 3 pm. Members of the puplic were invited to join in on the celebration of the founding of WI while meeting old and new friends.

Founder’s Month Contest: WI Branches were invited to take part in the Founder’s Month activities by hosting a WI member based or a community involved event. Any event that promoted Founder’s Day qualified, as long as the event was held in February. Cash Prizes of $50, $30 and $20 wwere awarded at the County Conventions in May.
